The House of Lords is Debating Pornography

What would Queen Elizabeth I say?

The House of Lords is debating the effects of pornography this week after the European Union ruled that the United Kingdom’s pornography filters discriminated against certain types of internet traffic.

Filters were previously in place that required users to opt in to viewing pornography or content with gratuitous violence. However, as of 2016, users will have to opt in to having those filters in place in their homes.

The debate in the House of Lords has focused on the effects of pornography on society and on individuals. One study cited in the debate indicated that extensive pornography use can actually shrink the parts of the brain in charge of pleasure and rewards.

Other speakers in the debate say that there is too little research to accurately measure the effects of pornography.
