Porn-Proofing Your Kids With Terry Crews, Part 3

Welcome to part 3 of our porn-proofing series! We loved Terry Crews’ “Dirty Little Secret” videos series, and so we have broken down his message into principles and suggestions to arm your children against pornography. Our goal is to create a rising generation that has a strong foundation of values that allow them to see pornography as it really is, and so destroy the allure of pornography and other degrading material. If you missed our earlier installments, you can read parts 1 and 2 here and here.

1) Teach them about pornography

As Terry Crews said, some parents want to keep their opinions to themselves, but “Pornography isn’t keeping itself to itself.” Pornography is actively recruiting new users, and the leaders of smut companies consider your children potential customers. Parents, it’s past time to speak up.

Talking to kids about pornography doesn’t need to scare them or destroy their innocence. This video by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is an uplifting kid-friendly resource. 2) Teach them their place in relationships

Some people grow to adulthood believing all relationships are solely for their benefit. Others mimic doormats, finding themselves in relationships where they live to serve. Kids need to learn a healthy give and take in relationships. They need parents to teach them to treat others with kindness and respect and to expect the same consideration  within intimate relationships.

3) Teach them to be fearless

Or at least teach them not to make decisions based on fear. This primordial emotion has its place, but uncontrolled fear drives people to unhealthy coping mechanisms and unhealthy relationships. Loving parents can help their kids know that they are equal to life’s challenges, and their parents always have their backs. Teach your children not to be afraid of being alone, and they will have the confidence to build healthy relationships. Teach your children to cope with rejection, and they will attempt more and climb higher.

“I’m interested in a world where men [and women!] are raised from birth with such an unshakeable understanding of women [and men!] as living human beings that they are incapable of being aroused by their exploitation.” — Jonah Mix
