Your dog may sit, roll over, fetch, and even play dead, but he would be hard pressed to keep up with the newest K-9 in Utah.
Meet URL (pronounced “Earl”), Utah’s first electronic detection dog. URL is one of nine certified K-9s in the country certified to sniff out hidden electronic memory devices such as USB drives, external hard drives, smart phones, etc. While URL and his fellow service dogs will help in uncovering criminal evidence about narcotics, terrorism, and financial crimes, their main focus will be sniffing out child pornography. URL’s trainer also certified the dog who busted Subway pitchman Jared Fogle for child pornography offenses.
A former shelter dog, URL was rescued and trained for 6 months in Indiana before receiving his certification. He will serve the northern Utah area, and he is the only certified electronic detection dog in the western states.
