Google Chat Gets Redesigned Interface Based on Material Design 3:
Google Chat, the messaging service in Google Workspace, is getting a makeover to match the redesigned interfaces of Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Gmail. The redesign is based on Google’s Material Design 3 system and includes small tweaks to the interface, such as rounded buttons, a rounded search bar, and blue accents throughout. The update also includes minor changes to the main message view, compose setup, new topic button, and the thread panel within direct messages and spaces. The design changes are expected to roll out in the coming weeks.
New Chat Feature Lets Managers Create Announcement-Only Channels:
In addition to the design update, Google has also announced a new Chat feature that allows Space Managers to create announcement-only channels. This feature is similar to what Slack offers, and it allows team members to stay on the same page without having to dig through multiple conversations to find important updates. The announcement-only channels can be used to share updates, news, and other information with the team.
