Five things I learned about using a porn blocking router in our house.
My name is Caryn Jacobs and I am here to share my story of how using a porn blocking router changed our household. My husband and I have been married for 15 years and we have two kids, ages 12 and 14. Our kids used to spend way too much time on the internet and we never really knew what kind of content they were looking at or what they were viewing. They would take their devices in their room and they were being quiet so I did not think much about it.
With the Clean Router installed, I don’t have to hover over my kids to KNOW the content my kids are viewing online is safe.
Last year we attended a seminar at my daughter’s Jr. High where an Assistant Chief of Police and his partners talked about the dangers of the internet and how sex trafficking is so much easier for predators now due to the internet and the apps that they have access to. He said the average age that a child is exposed to pornography is age 9. He gave so many facts about the internet sites that MY kids were playing on daily. He talked about how easy it is for a predator to be able to talk to them and try to meet them. I was scared to death! My 8th-grade daughter had a phone, a laptop, and an iPad, while my 6th-grade son had an iPad. I admit I was clueless how to know what kind of things they were viewing. I did not think they would go look at pornography or any kind of bad sites on purpose but I quickly learned that even typing in the word “cougar” for a book report could show them some pretty inappropriate photos.
Now I can even block certain keywords with the Clean Router.
I installed the Clean Router by myself. Yes, the mom who had never installed a router before, was able to easily hook this up and have it working within minutes. Once installed, I had the confidence knowing that all the bad stuff is filtered out and the only kind of “cougars” my son will see are the types with fur!
I now receive a daily report from Clean Router of EVERY site each device has visited. (Even if they look at sites incognito.)
The time restriction feature is amazing as I can set the times that my kids are allowed to use their devices. It sure makes discipline easier when I am grounding my child from using their devices with the time restrictions. Two clicks from my phone, iPad or computer, and my child no longer has access to Wifi until I am ready to give it back.
